18/12/00 - Mid-Season Break Round-up
The good news is that considering wins have been very scarce all teams are nearing half way up their respective divisions. The women's teams have won a game each with the 1sts winning their last match of the term against Homerton College with a score of 5-2, whilst the 2nds won their match against Robinson College 3-0. As the men's team enters the mid-season break they are currently lying 7th in the 1st Division table (out of tweleve) - having won their last two games on the trot. However, it must be said that this season has seen all the the Hornets teams struggle in their respective divisions, as only four wins in the whole club for all three teams combined shows!

29/10/00 - Veterans v University
Match Drawn 1-1. Although some claim the Uni side won 2-1... weither way it was a good turn-out and a great laugh to catch up with bot the old and new members.

28/08/00 - Tour to Stratford
The Hornets are going on tour to Stratford in september and preparations are already underway. The tour will consist of just one mixed team. There is a really good chance of the Hornets getting into the last four in the main competition in this event.

26/05/00 - It's a Knockout!
The Hornets have been invited to appear on Channel 5's "Its a Knockout". The filming will take place at The Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Ipswich, Suffolk on 5/6 August. Should be a good day and as usual the Hornets are expected to come a consistent last place.

09/05/00 - Tour Section
The Tour section of the website has been fully updated and now includes over 40 photos from tour as well as the tour report rom the Easter 2000 Bournemouth Festival.

07/05/00 - Womens team lose out in 1/4 Final

The Women's team

(L-R Back row) Anne Lugtmeiser, Sabine Lachtrop, Esther van Voorst,Cate Lyall, Becks Law, Lorna Watson, Victoria H, Catherine Dwyer. (Missing) Sam Egger, Kate Read, Ginny Garton.
(Front Row) Juile Winford, Suzy Abott.
The Womens team lost their Plate 1/4 Final to Girton College 0-4. A good first half for the hornets was overshadowed by the visitors flurry of chances converted in the second.

26/04/00 - Subscriptions and Annual Dinner
The club is currently considering introducing annual subs of approx. £25 per person to cover the cost of getting a domain name with email services, competition deposits and other basic costs. Also under discussion was the possibility of having an annual dinner with awards ceremony at a central location to allow all players old and new to get together for a good night out.

26/03/00 - Mixed 2nds Semi-Final Results
The Mixed 2nds team have lost out on a place in the SESSA Plate Final after going down 4-0 at home to Kingston. After the Semi-Final match on Sunday the results are as follows:

Hornets (0) - Kingston (4)

Fair to say that the match was a lot closer than the score line would suggest, and the day was decided by converted chances. The Hornets having over ten shots on goal and failing to convert while Kingston managed only five - but scored from four of them. Unfotunate as Kinston were a scrappy team relying upon one very skillful player and constant moaning at the Umpires. In what was quite an unpleasant fixture the vistors took the spoils and move onto the finals. The Hornets can take much away from this loss, not just the fact that they played well and failed to convert... but more importantly that they enjoyed the game and played it in the spirit it was intended.

20/04/00 - Hornets on Tour
The Hornets are embarking on their inaugral tour on the Easter weekend. Bournemouth Sports Club are hosting the annual festival and the hornets are taking a strong contingent of around thiry players comprising Mens, Womens and a Mixed team.

19/03/00 - Mixed 2nds 1/4 Final Results
The Mixed 2nds team have secured a place in the SESSA Plate Semi-Final with a convincing 6-1 win over Suffolk College. After the 1/4 Final match on Sunday the results are as follows:

Suffolk (1)- Hornets (6)
Goals: Potapa (3), Norris, Kirby, Law.

A well deserved win for the visitors - a display that saw the Hornets deliver a sting that the home side never recovered from. After being 2-0 up in the space of minutes a random slip-up gave Suffolk a consolation goal. This served to push the visitors up a gear which caused the rout to begin. A stunning hat-trick from Andy Potapa - set up by the spawniest of through balls from Dougal Davis - left the scoreline untouchable. A good, solid display from the much admired Hornets.

12/03/00 - Men's Team Promoted

The Men's team straight after promotion

(L-R Back row) Andy Hurst, Willem Dijckmeester, Dougal Davis, Gareth Norris, Jon Kirby, Will Bosman, Beaker, Mark Jones.
(Front Row) Gary Ward, Oli Drury, Ahmed Ahmed.
The Men's team secured promotion by winning matches on both Saturday 11/03 and Sunday 12/04. Both games were hotley contested and the Hornets scored their winning goals in the last play of each match. Next season brings the challenges of Division One.

12/03/00 - Mixed 1sts Lose out in Semi-Final
The Mixed 1sts team lost their Semi-Final to Bournemouth 2-6. A very good spirited game fun to watch - but the Hornets were outclased by the visitors.

12/03/00 - Men's League Results
After the final league match of the season on Sunday the results are as follows:

Hornets (4) - Sydney Sussex (3)
Goals: Kirby, Beaker, Bosman, Dijckmeester (PF).

The game looked like it was heading for a draw after complacency allowed a 2-0 lead to slip. Even though the Hornets took the lead again a few minutes later this was once again squandered. It was Dijckmeester's penalty flick in the dying minutes of the game that secured the win and promotion for the Hornets.

12/03/00 - Mixed SESSA Semi-Final Results
After the weekend the results stand as follows:

Hornets 1sts (2) - Bournemouth (6)
Goals: Law, Jones (PF).

This means that the 1sts are out of CUP, hope now rests on the 2nds for any silverware as they are still in the PLATE. They are in the 1/4 Finals next weekend.

11/03/00 - Men's League Results
After the match on Saturday the results are as follows:

Churchill (2) - Hornets (3)
Goals: Dijckmeester (2), Norris.

Scoring in the final minute of the game, Gareth Norris, kept alive the promotion hopes - if tommorrow's match is won as well the team will be promoted as Runners-up of Div 2.

The team and its website are 'officially' registered with the HockeyNet. The online network for field hockey.

08/03/00 - Hornets Crash out of Cup
The Men's SESSA 1/4 Final against Herts 1sts ended in a 6-0 defeat. Herts were a really strong team that totally outplayed and outclased the home side. A rally in the second half resulted in a few attacks but nothing was going to get Anglia back in the game - well and truly stuffed!!

05/03/00 - Mixed SESSA Quarter Final Results
As so many people were away at the weekend it was decided that the game between the 1sts & 2nds wouldn't be played. The 1sts were given a 1-0 win and the 2nds will now go into the Plate. This will also give the club the best chances of succeeding in both competitions. However, the match will actually played at some point soon - just to see what the result would've been.

01/03/00 - Club Registered with the English Hockey Association (EHA)
The team and its website are 'officially' registered with the EHA.

February/March 2000 - Tour Preparations

After the weekend the results stand as follows:

Hornets 1sts (1) - Bucks (0)
Goals: Kirby.

Hornets 2nds (8) - TVU (2)

Both teams progress to the Second Round (or Quarter Finals) and are drawn against each other! This match is due to be played on 05/03/00. Hence, Anglia are guarranteed to at least be in the Semi's on 12/03/00. Losers of the Quarter Final will be entered into the Plate.
